Intermodality

Intermodality

Intermodality implies the use of two or more modes of transport within the framework of a single trip, highlighting the consecutive integration of different transport options for a specific purpose or destination.

To determine the degree of intermodality of Spanish cities, the availability of the different existing modes of transport within 100 meters walking distance was taken into account. This included the presence of cycling infrastructure (shared public bicycle stops, bicycle lanes and private bicycle parking) and public transport such as bus, tram, metro and train stops. Five levels of intermodality have been established based on the number of different modes of transport coexisting in the given area.
